Build the lesson once, then shape how learners move through it
A Student path is navigation for the lecture you already have. The normal slide order is the starting route; checkpoints and branches are deliberate additions where the next step should depend on what a learner has done.
Run that lecture as a self-paced presentation and each learner follows the route resolved for them. The content stays in the lecture, while the path controls what comes next.
1 Start from the lecture
Use the lesson sequence you have already built
Student path belongs to the lecture itself. Its starting route follows the slides in their existing order, so worksheets, explanations and questions remain the substance of the journey.
Switch the lecture sidebar from Structure to Path to inspect that route. Open Edit path when the sequence needs a checkpoint, a branch or a different destination.
- Keep the lecture content and the navigation route together.
- Start linearly, then adapt only the moments that need it.
2 Hold at a checkpoint
Require the answer that should come before the next step
Select a slide in the path map and mark a supported automatically gradable question as Answer required. The student can read and work on the slide normally, but cannot advance until that question has a submitted answer.
Use this for a checkpoint that matters to the route—not for every interaction in the lecture.
- The required question must sit on that slide.
- The route blocks Next; it does not submit the answer for the student.
3 Branch the journey
Send different answers towards a useful next step
Add an answer branch for a supported choice question, or add a score rule based on the current slide or the total so far. The first matching rule chooses the destination.
Every branch also keeps a default destination. That gives the rest of the class a clear route and prevents one unmatched response from becoming a dead end.
- Route to support, extension or another relevant slide.
- Keep a deliberate default destination for everyone else.
4 Run it self-directed
Let each learner move through the route the lesson resolves for them
Use the lecture in a presentation with follow mode off, or combine it with a scheduled self-paced presentation. Previous and Next follow the learner’s own visited route instead of exposing every possible branch.
During a live session, the path map can show where participants currently are. You can also select a learner to trace the slides they have visited, without turning the journey into a generic percentage-complete dashboard.
- Each learner advances through their resolved route.
- The teacher can inspect current positions and a learner’s visited path.
