Create matching and ordering activities

Build questions where learners connect related items or arrange a sequence. You enter the exact pairs or correct order, and Praktikal keeps each submitted answer tied to that structure.

What this lets you do

One answer key, two ways to work with it

Connect pairs turns a set of one-to-one relationships into two answerable columns. Ordering turns a known sequence into a list learners rearrange.

Both support text and optional images, then carry the submitted structure into results. You choose the question shape, provide the answer key and decide how an Ordering task is scored.

1 Choose the relationship

Start with the shape of the answer

Use Connect pairs when each item in one column belongs with one item in another. Use Ordering when the answer is a sequence whose correct order you already know.

If the relationship depends on positions in a picture, Drag & drop is a separate spatial editor for labels, images and target zones. It is not the same authoring flow as a pair list or sequence.

  • Connect pairs for terms, definitions and other one-to-one relationships
  • Ordering for stages, processes, chronologies and ranked sequences
  • Drag & drop for items placed onto a background image

2 Build the pairs

Enter every relationship explicitly

Add Pair creates one left item and one right item as a relationship. Write text on either side, add an image where it helps, and repeat until the answer map is complete.

Praktikal shuffles the two columns for learners. They select a left item and then its right counterpart, so the interaction does not depend on typing or drawing a line by dragging.

  • Keep each authored row as one correct pair
  • Mix text and optional images across the two sides

3 Set the sequence

Arrange the correct order before learners see it

Add the items and arrange them in the correct order in the editor. Choose a vertical or horizontal layout, then decide whether marking should count each correct position or require the whole order to be right.

Learners receive a shuffled sequence. They can drag an item or use the move-up and move-down controls before submitting the complete order.

  • Use text, an optional image, or both on an item
  • Choose Per position or All or nothing scoring

4 Inspect the result

See the submitted relationship or sequence

After submission, Praktikal compares the structured answer with what you authored. Connect pairs can count correct relationships, while Ordering follows the score mode you selected.

The results keep the submitted connections or item order visible. That gives you the specific structure to review instead of only a generic right-or-wrong label.

  • Correct, partly correct and incorrect states stay tied to exact structure
  • Open the submitted pair map or sequence in the results view

Turn one relationship set into an interactive question

Add Connect pairs or Ordering, enter the answer structure and place it inside the Praktikal material where learners need it.
